back in 2012, i wrote about a collaboration between one of my all times favorite shoe designers duo unauna and miki ohana. it was the first time i heard of, the then resent graduate, miki. the collaboration involved stylish pilot hats and an added touch by miki, a super cute wired airplane brooch. fast forward to 2021 and miki is launching a brand new website with his wire and sewing art. and you know how much i love good line art.
on a regular basis, miki does it all. he draws, animates, sculpts and sews.
miki’s drawings that are made with a sewing machine are beyond moving. somehow he manages to layer lots of meaningful emotions into one drawing, with one black sewing thread on a simple white cloth.
i especially love his small sculptures made of iron wires. and yeah, even his wired airplane made a comeback!
miki calls himself the “wild tailor” and that’s a nickname that suits him so well. just like a tailor, even without an avid explanation, he knows where and how to place the right lines in order to create sensitive and touching portraits of objects, humans and animals alike.
i can’t wait to witness what the future holds for miki and his unforgettable lines.
Thank you See you soon
