Usually I don’t explore the graduate projects that come out of the Interior Design Departments. I guess there is always a first time for everything and this time it was Aviram Cohen Sityon who proved me wrong.
Aviram, a fresh graduate out of the Holon Institute of Technology, dedicated time to creating a new kind of material. A brilliant one! Say hello to Cementic, the love child of concrete and sponge. A child that is now know as soft concrete (!!!)
“In his material studies lab, Aviram explored the semantic, conceptual and emotional aspects of concrete, and examined the relationship between imagery and material by juxtaposing solid imagery and soft experience.” As you can imagine, this persistent guy spent countless hours thinking and re-thinking, mixing and re-mixing until he reached the proper dose of compound that led to a successful result.
In the end, he decided to present his new material in the form of tiles and pillows and in both cases the outcome is outstanding.
I’m sure we all realize that this is only the beginning of something big. Huge. Monstrous. Right?!
