every year, on my birthday, i receive the most thoughtful package, from my out of this world friend (hi,yaeli!), with a bunch of israeli design objects. the thing that surprises me the most is the fact that she always manages to find designers that are new to me.
and so, that’s the story behind frankie the whale and i. frankie, an imaginary whale (who died before his time), was originally hand drawn by noa goffer and then found it’s way into a special enamel pin (and then into my package).
basically, that’s the story behind all of noa’s misfortunes creatures.
“misfortunes is a home for the misplaced, forgotten, at times defected characters in life. the unique creatures are not exactly human, nor nature, but a mix of the imaginary and the real.”
noa has been drawing and inventing strange little creatures for as long as she can remember. her love for storytelling brought her to pursue film studies but she missed creating with her hands. with her misfortunes, she managed to combine both worlds.
i especially adore the random facts and made up stories that lead up to each creature. and a pin that has a backup story is such a refreshing concept! in fact, when you choose one of noa’s pins, you get so much more than your average accessory. you get a glimpse into noa’s imaginary world!
on a side note, i have to share with you noa’s corona diary, that goes by the name “le grand plague”. i’m sure we all can find ourselves in-between these hilarious yet brutally honest illustrations. and speaking of being brutally honest, the inside of noa’s brain is the place to be. seriously. she is one wicked human with a lot of fears and emotions that translate into the most touching and reveling pictorial inventory.
Thank you See you soon
