Usually industrial designers that I talk to say that they like to stick to their initial sketches and don’t like to be surprised side effects of materials. And then came Mishmaacool (aka Ohad Benit) and Tag.me.not (aka Atar Brosh) and together they created the 50% Control Stool. The two decided to challenge themselves and began their creative process by asking a simple question: “does a designer have control over his material?” The guys wanted to take an unfamiliar road and didn’t care for their end result to be controlled by them or technology. They wanted to leave some room for faith and the material’s sense of humor. And the end result… well, I can see where these two are coming from. In this case the joke is definitely not on them.
