I’ve been thinking about Los Angeles for a long time and knew that I had to visit and explore it’s yummy spots and super designed stores. And when I read Will’s post, regarding his afternoon with Jonathan (aka Mr. Happy Mundane) in Venice (you have to click here and see it all for yourself), I knew I better get to it, sooner than later. And so, when Memorial Weekend arrived two weeks ago, it was the right time to get the show on the road and it was a whooping eight hours on the road (!!!)
We decided to stay at The Standard in Downtown LA and it was good. Especially the part where we had the whole rooftop swimming pool all to ourselves in the mornings. Sight.
While exploring Downtown LA, we headed to the Arts District and visited Poketo (duh!). After all, I was reading about this design store for ages and had to see it with my own two eyes. From there we strolled the streets and visited some other cute little design stores AND THEN, we came across Wurstküche. It’s “German exotic grilled sausages”, as they call it and… IT’S HEAVEN. They have the most amazing selection of sausages, their sauerkraut is to die for and don’t get me start talking about their ah-mazing selection of mustards.
We didn’t just eat our way through the city (ok, maybe just a little bit), but the fact that Bottega Louie was just a 5 min walk from the hotel, made everything much better. I’m serious!
Silverlake was a big surprise. We decided to explore some of it’s design shops and before that have breakfast at SQIRL. I had the most flavorful crispy rice bowl and the Mr. had their chocolate brioche. It was delicious!
From there we started going all over the place from Yolk to Broome St. General Store to Clare Vivier.
We had to try the sweets at Proof Bakery so of course we drove over there. Sorry not sorry.
Another spot that I just had to visit was Sprinkles Cupcake ATM. Yep, there is a CUPCAKE ATM. I’ve heard so much about it that I had such a huge smile on my face the minute I spotted it. And the cupcake? It was sooooo good. But I knew it will be. After all, we are talking about Sprinkles. They also have an ice-cream and cookies shop next door, but I just couldn’t do it… maybe I should have…
And then there was Venice. We basically followed Will and Jonathan’s footsteps. We walked the Abbot Kinney Blvd and stopped along the way at some pretty beautiful shops. My absolute fave where the The Piece Collective and Urbanic. I wanted to visit Urbanic (it’s a paper boutique, but I’m sure you already knew that) since forever so I was super excited to finally be able to browse all of my favorite stationary brands in one beautiful home.

All in all, it was one colorful and bright weekend. I still have a bunch of places on my list (not to say cafes and bakeries) so I guess it won’t be long before we find ourselves on the road again on Highway 101.
